Greater Rochester is one of the top exporting major metropolitan regions per capita in the U.S.
And exporting goods to other countries may become a bit less arduous in the next two years, thanks to a new system planned by the federal government.
It will allow companies to cut down on the amount of time it takes to submit data to government agencies.
Dulce Zahniser, managing director of Towpath Group International LLC, is a member of the Greater Rochester Enterprise International Business Council. She works with companies trying to build their export business. Zahniser says the new streamlined process should remove barriers for firms looking to ship their products abroad. “You’re still gonna have to have expertise in house to actually run your paperwork. You still have to provide the same kind of information to the U.S. government when you export. But what you’re doing now is submitting it to one place versus having to send it to umpteen different places and administrations.”
Zahniser says other businesses should benefit from the new system as well, including export suppliers and those that import goods from other countries.
