The Brighton School District has announced that 46 additional members of the school community are now in quarantine at the direction of the Monroe County Department of Public Health because of COVID-19.
A statement released Wednesday by District Superintendent Kevin McGowan says that there have been nine new positive COVID-19 cases since a previous update. All of the new cases are in the hybrid program at Brighton High School.
Other individuals are self-isolating or quarantining at the request of their doctor, school personnel or because of their own decision, while they await additional contract tracing.
McGowan says that the district was happy to have students in grades K-5 back to five days of in-person instruction this week. But he says that grades 6-12 will not be able to return to full in-person instruction next week because the COVID infection rate is still too high, according to guidance from health officials.
McGowan says that Monday, May 24 would be the latest that Brighton would fully reopen for students in grades 6-12 in order to maintain continuity. He says that situation will be reviewed on a weekly basis.
