The federal government has banned travel to the United States from most of Europe, but some public health experts do not think this will prevent the spread of coronavirus.

She said the community should be confident that doctors are ready to handle the health implications of the coronavirus outbreak locally.

In order to stop the spread of illness, Raz said people must focus on personal responsibility.

"This is a time for massive social distancing," she said Friday. "The fewer people you see, the slower this disease will spread."

But she said something like the federal travel ban misses the point.

"Literally nobody in the health community wanted this," she said.

"We need to focus on mitigating its spread in the community. Random travel bans of certain people with certain nationalities makes no sense."

She said public health experts agree that the more immediate issue is understanding who has the virus through increased testing, with quicker turnaround.
