It has been 25 years since the passage of the Clery Act, which requires colleges to report information about campus crimes. All this week, WXXI and other public radio newsrooms across upstate New York are exploring security on campuses in a special series called Combating Campus Crime. The reports cover a range of topics, including how a new state law changed what students learn about sexual assault and consent, and why some campus police now wear body cameras.
We discuss these issues, as well as a recent decision to have campus police at the Rochester Institute of Technology carry firearms beginning in January. Our guests:
- Nick Giordano, president of RIT student government
- Veronica Volk, reporter at WXXI News
