WXXI has been informed by RTDNA, the Radio Television Digital News Association, that it is a regional winner in this year’s Edward R. Murrow Awards.

The Murrow Awards are one of the more prominent awards in broadcast and digital journalism, and this year, WXXI won in the category of Investigative Reporting for a story about aformer Democrat and Chronicle paperboy suing the D&C and its parent company, Gannett, claiming he was sexually abused by a supervisor when he was a paperboy in the 1980s.

The story was reported by WXXI’s Beth Adams, CITY Newspaper Editor David Andreatta and WXXI photojournalist Max Schulte.

The RTDNA says that this year it saw a record number of entries, more than 5,000. There were more than 750 awards in 14 regions of the country, representing more than 350 local radio and television news outlets. New York state is in a region with New Jersey and Pennsylvania, and stations are grouped together by market size.

WXXI will now be entered with the other regional winners into a national RTDNA competition.

Randy Gorbman is WXXI's director of news and public affairs. Randy manages the day-to-day operations of WXXI News on radio, television, and online.
