Marking the 109th Anniversary of Susan B. Anthony's Death

A wreath ceremony was held this morning at the Susan B. Anthony Museum and House to commemorate the 109th anniversary of the death of the famous suffragist.

Anthony Museum President and CEO Deborah Hughes say they hang the wreath every year, just as a velvet wreath was first put on the door of the home where Anthony died in 1906.

She says there was a terrible blizzard that year, but despite the weather, and the fact there was no amendment at the time that guaranteed women the right to vote, 10-thousand people gathered to pay their respects to Anthony.

Hughes adds Anthony had many wonderful proclamations about what she was looking forward to in the 20th century, including resolving our conflicts through diplomacy, and a political system where representatives would study the issues and come up with what was the best for the social good of all.
