Trying To Break A Record At The Lilac Festival

Lilac Festival logo

One of this area’s biggest and oldest festivals kicks off today, and organizers are hoping to bring a record on the first day.

As part of the Lilac Festival, there will be an attempt to break the record for the world’s largest human flower. That will involve thousands of people showing up in Highland Park where they will put on a colored poncho and form a giant flower.  Festival organizer Jeff Springut asks people to get there before noon.

“There’s free parking, the ponchos are free, you don’t have to wear purple, and we’re going to have some fun breaking this record. “

The most recent record for the world’s biggest human flower was set just recently in England, where more than 2200 people formed a human poppy. Springut feels Rochester has a good chance of breaking the record.

The festival goes on for 10 days with food, music and other activities all part of the event along with the flowers. Get more info here.
