BURKE (AP) A Civil War re-enactment is going on this weekend at the northern New York boyhood home of Almanzo Wilder, husband of Laura Ingalls Wilder of "Little House on the Prairie'' fame.
The event Saturday and Sunday is in the Franklin County town of Burke, 160 miles north of Albany. Almanzo Wilder grew up there in the 1860s on a farm that became the setting for his wife's book "Farmer Boy,'' the second novel in the "Little House'' series.
Members of the Adirondack Regiment of Civil War Re-Enactors, representing the 118th New York Volunteer Infantry, will hold an encampment and skirmishes at the Wilder farm.
The 118th Volunteer Infantry was mustered into service in August 1862 from Plattsburgh and included 1,020 North Country men. It was nicknamed "the Adirondack Regiment.''
