The first day of 2019 will come roaring into Western New York, at least in terms of the forecast.
The National Weather Service has issued a High Wind Warning for several counties including Monroe; it’s in effect mainly in the overnight hours from Monday into early Tuesday morning. News 8 meteorologist Josh Nichols says we could see gusts topping 55 mph in some places.
Because of the forecast, Rochester’s fireworks celebration on Monday night was canceled. Bristol Mountain also canceled its torchlight parade and fireworks display
The forecast does call for the temperatures to stay relatively mild until the overnight, with the high in the 40s and some rain on New Year’s Eve. But then things turn much colder by New Year’s Day, with the temperature falling into the 30s and some flurries.
Wednesday will see some sun, but still cold, with a high of 32.
