Town of Perinton Supervisor to step down

Town of Perinton

Perinton Town Supervisor Mike Barker will be leaving that job soon. On Tuesday, he announced his retirement from town government this coming Saturday, November 24.

Barker, who was first elected Perinton Supervisor in 2014, was first elected to a public office in 1992 when he became a member of the Fairport Village Board.

He plans to go back to teaching, which he did in the Fairport School District for more than 27 years.

“I have loved serving the residents of Perinton and will miss interacting with the community on a day-to-day basis,’’ Barker said. “I’m excited about teaching and working with young people again.”

Deputy Supervisor Joe LaFay will be acting supervisor until the Perinton Town Board appoints a successor.

Barker's term would have run through December 2019, so whomever is appointed will fill out the rest of that term.
