Structural Problems Reported At A Building At Medley Centre

Town of Irondequoit officials say they have some major structural issues to deal with at the Medley Centre property.

Irondequoit Supervisor Adam Bello says that substantial structural failures to a building housing a water pump station at Medley Centre were discovered in recent days, and he says that could result in the building's collapse given the recent extreme weather.

Bello says that large cracks were found in the exterior of the building, and coupled with a lack of heat on the inside, have created a potential for freezing of the main water main and pumps.  He says not only would a collapse of that building affect the pump house itself, but it could potentially threaten adjacent properties, such as the nearby Target store.

Bello says the town sent a notice to Scott Congel whose company owns the mall ordering immediate action, but have not heard back from him.

Town workers have taken temporary steps to prevent the building from collapsing.
