Glaze Of Ice Localized In Parts Of WNY; Leads To Some Power Outages

A glaze of ice coated some parts of Western NY overnight Saturday into early Sunday morning, although the freezing rain impact was quite localized. Temperatures hovered near the freezing mark in parts of Monroe, Orleans and other counties further north, while south of the Thruway, the precipitation was just rain.

The National Weather Service has kept their 'ice storm warning' in effect until Noon on Sunday for counties including Monroe, Genesee and Orleans, although temperatures will rise into the 40s by midday, which should ease any icing problems.  There is a freezing rain advisory for counties including Livingston, Wyoming, Wayne and Ontario Counties until 10am on Sunday.

The power outages early Sunday morning included nearly 2700 RG&E customers in Monroe County, many of them in the Parma-Ogden area, and more than 3000 National Grid customers without power in Orleans County, more than 3600 in Genesee County and about 7000 in Erie County and more than 12,000 in Niagara County.

The ice damage was worse in parts of Northern New York, including St. Lawrence and Jefferson Counties where thousands lost electricity overnight.

There is still a flood watch in effect into Sunday night for much of the area, and a flood warning for some area creeks and streams as well.
