Road and bridge projects in Greece and Irondequoit getting underway soon

wxxinews

A couple of newly announced highway projects will cause changes in commutes for Rochester area drivers.

One of them involves work on the overpass that carries Route 104 eastbound at the Route 590 interchange. The NYS Transportation Department says that the overpass will close to traffic beginning July 8 for preventative maintenance work that includes concrete deck repairs and joint replacement..

Eastbound traffic on Route 104 will be temporarily detoured to take Route 590 South to Empire Blvd. and continue onto Route 104 at the Bay Bridge using Route 590 North. The work is scheduled to be completed in August, weather permitting. DOT officials say the detour is not expected to conflict with the state’s current resurfacing project along Empire Blvd., which will also be accessible for drivers traveling east.

The other project is in the Town of Greece, where the town will be replacing the Maiden Lane Bridge over Round Pond Creek, located just east of Long Pond Road. According to Supervisor Bill Reilich, that bridge is nearly 40 years old and recent inspection reports indicated that sections of it were showing signs of deterioration. He says that while there was no immediate cause for concern, the town wanted to be proactive and received a $1.6 million state grant to replace the bridge.

The work will begin on July 1 and is scheduled to be completed by August 31. Maiden Lane will be closed to traffic at that location during the project.

Reilich says that access from Long Pond Road to Country Village Plaza and the gas station on the corner of Maiden Lane/Long Pond Road immediately west of the project will be maintained, as well as access to the Greece United Methodist Church and the Brookview townhomes on the eastern side of the project.

Detour signs will be installed and will direct traffic to utilize Long Pond Road, Vintage Lane and Fetzner Road during the project.

Pedestrian access across the bridge will be maintained and would only be closed for brief periods of time during certain phases of the project.
