Report: Mother and infant have died after Rochester fire earlier in the week

Spectrum News

The mother and child who were rescued from a Jay Street house fire in Rochester earlier this week have died. Spectrum News quotes family members who talked about those deaths.

Fire crews arrived on scene shortly before 8 a.m. Monday to find flames shooting out the back of the home.

Firefighters rescued 22-year-old Amber Robinson and her 6-month-old daughter Da’miiyah Sides from the second floor and began performing CPR. Both victims were taken to the hospital, where they later died of  their injuries.

Crews put out the fire within 35 minutes. The cause of the fire has not been released yet.

City Council Vice President Willie Lightfoot, who is a retired firefighter, issued a statement on Saturday.

He offered his condolences and said that, “As a former firefighter, I know how difficult a call with such a devastating outcome can be.  I encourage the entire community to join me in keeping all that were touched by this horrific event in their thoughts and prayers.”
