RBTL adds mask mandate to upcoming shows

The Rochester Broadway Theatre League has joined the growing list of arts organizations that are modifying their coronavirus pandemic guidelines.

Beginning with the Sept. 21 opening of “Cats” at the Auditorium Theatre, all audience members, volunteers and staff will be required to wear a face mask while in the building, regardless of their vaccination status.

“Cats” will be the first touring show presented by the RBTL since March, 2020.

The RBTL adds that COVID guidelines could change based on updated recommendations from the Center For Disease Control, New York State and Monroe County.

Two shows from the 2019-20 season doggedly remain from the first of RBTL’s seasons interrupted by the coronavirus pandemic. “Cats” is a holdover from the 2019-’20 RBTL season, with a Sept. 21-26 run. The other show from that season, “Dear Evan Hanson,” is now slated to run April 12-17, 2022.

As for the 2020-’21 season, here is where everything has landed:

“Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” Nov. 16-21.

“Pretty Woman: The Musical,” Dec 7-12.

“My Fair Lady,” Feb. 22-27, 2022.

“The Band’s Visit,” June 7-12, 2022.

“Mean Girls,” July 5-10, 2022.

That only leaves “Hamilton,” available as a sixth-show upgrade to the 2020-21 season. It has been re-rescheduled for Nov. 1-13, 2022.
