After a fairly slow early voting period, Monroe County Board of Elections commissioners are hoping for a larger turnout during Tuesday’s primary.

According to the board, 5,142 voters participated in the 10-day early voting period.

Republican Elections Commissioner Lisa Nicolay said she was disappointed that more voters did not participate in early voting, but she predicts traditional voters will show up on Tuesday.

“If they are a regular voter they like to vote on Election Day... some people go out to breakfast, some people get a haircut, they have kind of a regular routine of what they do on Election Day so I am hoping that some of the traditional regular voters all turn out,” Nicolay said.

She added that it’s likely that a lot of the Democrats who voted in early voting in Monroe County were probably voting in city elections, since there are primaries for races that include mayor, city council and school board.

There are several Democratic primaries for the Monroe County Legislature, and a Democratic primary in the Monroe County Judge race. There are also some primaries for the Conservative and Working Families parties in Monroe County.

There are some primaries for town races in Ontario County, and in Wayne County there is a Republican primary for sheriff.

Voters who are registered with a party that has a primary can vote from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday.
