The Harley School in Brighton has entered the final phase of its "Lives of Great Purpose" campaign.

With a goal of $12 million, the campaign is three times larger than any other previous campaign, according to Larry Frye, Harley’s head of school.

He said the campaign focuses on three major areas.

“One is improving the learning spaces at the school,” he said. “Two, is to support faculty compensation and professional development. And three, is to ensure our long-term financial sustainability."

The final phase of the fundraising effort is focused on increasing compensation for faculty.

Frye said the Sands Family Foundation, which kicked off the initiative for teachers last year with a $3 million gift, has vowed to give even more through a matching donation.

“If the rest of the community is able to raise a million dollars toward the faculty endowment,” he explained, “the Sands Foundation will match it, and that will bring the overall faculty endowment to $5 million."

He said at Harley, like at many schools, it's the faculty that makes the difference.
