The Fairport Lift Bridge will reopen later this week, nearly two years after it closed for repairs.
The Fairport Office of Community and Economic Development tweeted that ceremonies will held Friday to celebrate the lift bridge reopening.
More than a century old, the bridge was closed in September 2019. The bridge had been expected to reopen in November 2020, but that was delayed due to supply chain issues and having to fabricate parts for the 107-year-old bridge. Officials hoped the bridge could reopen in April, but that had to be delayed again.
The New York State Department of Transportation confirms the ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held on Friday.
Village officials in Fairport have eagerly been anticipating the reopening of the bridge partly due to the impact on local businesses.
