New York state’s COVID-19 hospitalizations have dropped to 410, a new low. That’s according to numbers released by Governor Andrew Cuomo on Sunday, which show the number of hospitalizations at the lowest level since March 16.
He also said the state’s COVID-19 infection rate has been less than 1% for 30 straight days. The infection rate for the Finger Lakes Region, which includes Rochester, was .7% on Saturday.
Monroe County on Sunday reported 10 new cases of COVID-19 and no new deaths.
Cuomo says that New Yorkers can keep the low infection rate going by remembering to do things like wearing masks, socially distancing and washing your hands. He urges New Yorkers to continue those practices during the Labor Day weekend.
Health experts have expressed concerns that some activities this holiday weekend could lead to a spike in cases.
The fear is that backyard parties, crowded bars and other gatherings will cause the coronavirus to come surging back
“I look upon the Labor Day weekend really as a critical point," said Dr. Anthony Fauci, the government’s top infectious-disease expert. "Are we going to go in the right direction and continue the momentum downward, or are we going to have to step back a bit as we start another surge?"
