The city of Canandaigua has been a finalist three times in the annual Downtown Revitalization Initiative awarded by New York State, but including input from the public in their newest application may put them over the top.
That’s the feeling from City Manager John Goodwin who says the state sponsored program awards up to $10 million.
“We had portions of (that) in our past applications that have been in the finals, but we really feel we can enhance it and make our application even stronger with additional public input,” he said.
That initial public input will come during a DRI forum held by Canandaigua City Council on April 2 at 7 p.m at the Hurley Building at 205 Saltonstall Street. Everyone is welcome to attend and provide feedback.
Goodwin says a $10 million award from the state would have a huge impact on the city’s downtown area.
“Ten million in any community, especially in a certain are of our downtown, would have a huge impact with the amount of investment, both public and private,” he said.
The state is expected to hand out the next round of awards this summer. Penn Yann won last year in the Finger Lakes region.
