Boil water notice issued for the Village of Victor

Residents who use water from the Village of Victor have a boil water notice in effect. That notice came out Wednesday after E. coli bacteria was found in the water.

The Monroe County Water Authority says it was informed on Wednesday that the bacteria was found in village drinking water on August 15.

A map showing areas that are impacted is available here.

Officials say that the presence of E. coli indicates that water may be contaminated with human or animal waste.

The microbes can cause diarrhea, cramps, nausea, headaches or other symptoms and can pose a special health risk for infants, some elderly people and those with severely compromised immune systems.

The Water Authority will do water main flushing and water quality testing in the impacted areas. Officials do say affected residents will likely need to boil water for the next three days until the problem is fixed.

That means bringing tap water to a rolling boil for two minutes and allowing it to cool before using it, or using bottled water for things like drinking, making ice, preparing food, etc.
