Monroe County Executive Adam Bello has signed legislation to change the name of the Greater Rochester International Airport to the Frederick Douglass-Greater Rochester International Airport.
According to the county, it's the first step in a three- to six-month process to receive Federal Aviation Administration approval.
Before the name change can officially happen, the airport administration must work with the FAA to update several official documents and certifications.
The county said that as the official review and approval process begins, U.S. Sens. Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand and Rep. Joe Morelle have written a joint letter to the FAA to express their support for this proposal.
