Monroe County is reminding families to stay safe trick or treating this Halloween.

County Executive Cheryl Dinolfo visited a second grade classroom at School No.17 Monday morning and shared some tips.

The list included planning a route in advance, staying on sidewalks, only visiting houses that are lit up and traveling with groups.

"Grab your friends, your brothers your sisters, and a responsible adult and go out all together."

With all the children expected to be out on the streets, Dinolfo also announced that the County Office of Probation and Community Corrections will be operating its annual Halloween Sex Offender Detail Halloween night.

"The offenders have all already been directed by letter to refrain from putting up any decorations, to leave their outside lights off at their homes and not answer the door to anyone except our probation officer on Halloween."

Probation Officers plan to visit over 100 homes to make sure offenders are complying.

Dinolfo also reminded adults to be mindful driving tomorrow night, noting that people will be more people in the streets trick or treating, and suggested trick or treaters stop knocking on doors by 9pm.
