Brockport Police Chief Dan Varrenti announces retirement

Village of Brockport

The Village of Brockport will have to look for a new police chief.

Dan Varrenti, who has been with the Brockport department for 16 years, and in law enforcement overall for 38 years, says he will retire at the end of March next year.

Varrenti’s career includes 23 years with the Irondequoit Police Department, and also working with a countywide police task force.

He says he’s turning 61 next year, and feels that with the help of a great staff he’s been able to accomplish what he set out to do.

Varrenti says now it’s time for Brockport to hire someone to take the police department to the next level.

Varrenti is also a past president of the Monroe County Chiefs of Police Association.

Before retiring in March 2025, Randy Gorbman was WXXI's director of news and public affairs and managed the day-to-day operations of WXXI News on radio, television, and online.
