15 arrests following Puerto Rican festival on Rochester's northeast side

Rochester Police say they arrested 15 people on the city’s northeast side Sunday night following the Puerto Rican Festival.

There were no issues at the weekend festival itself, which was mainly centered around Frontier Field, and which drew thousands of people to enjoy food, music and dance.

But as has happened in recent years, there was some rowdy behavior after the festival ended Sunday night in the northeast neighborhood, and authorities say they did handle the situation without any major incidents.

Mostly the incidents were related to disorderly crowds and large car caravans, according to police.

Of the 15 total arrests, 11 of the people charged were for  traffic related related incidents, three for disorderly conduct, and one for obstructing government administration/resisting arrest.

Police say there was a minor accident involving a police vehicle and a dirt bike on Remington Street, when the bike hit a parked car. There were no injuries and the operator of the dirt bike is facing multiple traffic infractions.

Authorities say throughout the evening, bottles were thrown at officers, but there are no reports of injuries or damage to RPD vehicles.

Police also say on several occasions, various objects were set on fire in the street.

Law enforcement used verbal warnings, pepperballs, and LRAD (Long range Acoustical Device) for help disperse disorderly crowds. A state police helicopter was used for observation.
