AAA is pedaling to the assistance of stranded cyclists

AAA of Western and Central New York will now be servicing two-wheeled transportation.

They’re adding bicycle towing benefits to all AAA membership policies at no additional cost.

Spokesperson Elizabeth Carey said they decided to add the service after seeing the increase in Rochester cyclists as the city becomes more bike friendly.

Disabled cyclists can request the service from a normally traveled road by a AAA service vehicle.

For those stranded on a bike path, trail or other restricted pathway, the AAA service vehicle will meet the rider at the closest point of entry for motor vehicles.

The service kicked off July 1st and according to Carey, has already seen some use throughout the area.

"We had someone who was starting out in NYC traveling across the country to the west coast and they broke down right in central NY. We went to their assistance made sure they were okay, took them to a bike shop and they continued on their journey across the country."

Towing is provided to the location of the member’s choosing, according to the terms of the individual’s AAA membership.

Like their car services, bicycle roadside assistance is offered 24/7.
