Older info from the Town of Pittsford on Saturday
The Towns of Pittsford, Perinton and East Rochester have arranged for an overnight shelter for people who are without heat in their own homes. The shelter is located at the Barker Road Middle School, at 75 Barker Road in Pittsford. The shelter opens at 6PM today, Friday, March 10th and will remain open until 6PM on Sunday, March 12th. Visitors should enter through the main entrance to Barker Road School and sign in at the gymnasium. Cots are available for sleeping. Those who wish to do so may bring an air mattress or sleeping bag. Those planning to stay overnight should bring their own bedding and pillow. No pets will be allowed in the shelter. Lollypop Farm has provided useful information about protecting your pets in the cold weather at http://www.lollypop.org/about-us-overview/press-room/press-release-keeping-pets-safe-power-outage/ All visitors to the temporary shelter must sign in upon entering. Our deepest thanks to the Pittsford Central School District for making Barker Road Middle School available as the Emergency Shelter and for the time and effort of the school district's staff involved in the planning and execution of this undertaking. Once more, as they have done again and again, the School District and Superintendent Mike Pero demonstrate the meaning of collaboration and working in partnership for the common good. Sincere thanks also to the Islamic Center of Rochester for volunteering their support for our Emergency Overnight Shelter, by underwriting the cost of food for people using the shelter. You are good neighbors and good friends. Thank you. |
KEEP WATER PIPES FROM FREEZING DURING AN EXTENDED POWER OUTAGE If the temperature in your basement falls below 25 degrees, open each water faucet in your home slightly to allow a trickle of water to flow. We have been advised this is the best means of prevention to protect your pipes from freezing. The water used will not be a great expense, and the cost will be much less than that of cleanup and repair of burst pipes. |
