Rochester Suspends Deputy Director At 911 Center

cityofrochester.gov

The City of Rochester has issued a five-day suspension without pay for the Deputy Director of Emergency Communications.

A statement from City Hall says that after conducting an internal investigation into allegations that the Deputy Director, Steve Cusenz,  posted inappropriate comments on a social media page, the Emergency Communications Department determined that he did in fact make that post.

Officials say that although the post was made on his personal account and outside of work hours, the department determined that as Deputy Director, he would be held accountable for his professional and personal actions at a higher level than rank and file employees.

Additionally, Cusenz  will be required to take diversity and inclusion training prior to returning to work.

The news of this suspension comes after the Town of Irondequoit recently placed an officer on administrative leave after a blog that appeared to show what were several insensitive social media postings.

Town officials say they are conducting an investigation to determine the authenticity of those postings, and if that material did come from the officer, they say appropriate disciplinary action will be taken.

Before retiring in March 2025, Randy Gorbman was WXXI's director of news and public affairs and managed the day-to-day operations of WXXI News on radio, television, and online.
