Thruway Closed Between Henrietta & PA/NY Line

Update: 10:52 a.m. 

The winter storm has closed the NYS Thruway, both east and westbound, between Exit 46 in Henrietta and Exit 61 in Ripley near the PA/NY State line.

A number of highways are closed in the Buffalo area including (courtesy of WGRZ-TV):

  • Route 219 Northbound - Closed from Route 39 to Ridge Road
  • Route 219 Southbound - Closed from I-90 to Route 39
  • Route 5 Westbound - Closed at I-190 to Tifft Street
  • Route 5 Eastbound - Closed at Tifft Street to I-190
  • Route 400 Southbound - Closed from I-90 to Olean Road
  • Route 400 Northbound - Closed from Olean Road to I-90
  • RAMP I-290W TO I-190S - RAMP I-290W TO I-190S
  • I-290 Eastbound - Closed at Exit 6 (Sheridan Drive) to I-90 (1.9 miles)
  • I-190 Southbound - Closed from Exit 16 (I-290) to the I-90I-290 from Exit 6 to the Thruway and I-190, the Niagara Thruway from exit 1 to exit 16.

Also, In Genesee County there is a travel advisory in effect, with the sheriff’s department there advising no unnecessary travel because of blowing and drifting snow in parts of that county. There is also a travel ban for the towns of Alexander, Bethany, Darien, Pavilion, and Pembroke.

Governor Cuomo has also activated the NYS Emergency Operations Center. That  is to make sure that resources are available to help with any snow clearing efforts.

The NYS DOT moved additional plows and personnel from around the state to Western New York to assist with snow removal operations.
