More than a dozen people in Monroe County who were isolated for coronavirus concerns are now out of quarantine.
The county health department said it is following federal and state guidance that calls for isolating people returning from mainland China for two weeks -- the upper end of the period that the virus could potentially be contagious.
The county said Monday that the first group of 14 local people quarantined under those guidelines has made it through the isolation period with no symptoms of the coronavirus.
Fourteen other local people are still under quarantine in their homes. The health department said none of them have shown symptoms either.
No coronavirus cases have been confirmed in New York state, but the state health department said there are still hundreds of people in voluntary quarantine statewide.
As the cases spread further internationally, the World Health Organization declined to call the disease a pandemic on Monday, saying there’s still a chance to prevent the uncontrolled spread of the virus.
