Brighton police chief Mark Henderson to retire

Town of Brighton

The Town of Brighton will be looking for a new police chief.  Mark Henderson, who has been an officer with the Brighton Police Department for 33 years and has been chief for nine years, will be retiring.

Henderson will join the Jewish Federation of Greater Rochester and the Secure Community Network as the Regional Director of Community Security.

The Secure Community Network is a non-profit organization founded in 2004 as to serve the American Jewish community concerning matters of communal safety, security, preparedness and response.

Brighton Supervisor Bill Moehle praised Henderson’s tenure as chief, particularly his efforts at increased community engagement.  Moehle says that, that engagement initiative provided the framework needed to help protect the town’s minority communities. He says Henderson also spearheaded the implementation of body worn cameras for officers.

Moehle also indicated that he anticipates an “internal replacement” for Henderson as police chief.
