The federal government has chosen a site in Genesee County for a Western New York Veterans Cemetery. That according to Senator Charles Schumer who says that it will be located on a 132 acre parcel in Pembroke just north of the Thruway exit there.
Schumer says it will be the first and only one of its kind in the Buffalo and Rochester areas, and will save a number of military families from having to travel long distances to what is now the closest veterans' cemetery, which is in Bath in Steuben County.
Schumer says there are over 300,000 veterans now living in Western New York that could be served by this cemetery.
