Top New York State Education officials will be in Rochester later this week to talk about a recent report that looked at concerns with the city school district.
State Education Commissioner MaryEllen Elia will come to a community discussion that will be held at the Joseph C. Wilson Foundation Academy on Thursday.
Also attending are two locally-based state regents; T. Andrew Brown, who is also Vice Chancellor of the NYS Board of Regents, and Regent Wade Norwood.
The meeting will also include Jaime Aquino, the Distinguished Educator who was appointed by Elia due to concerns about academic performance in the Rochester School District.
The community meeting this week will go over Aquino’s findings. His report has indicated the district is making some progress, including an improvement in the graduation rate, but among its 84 recommendations were a call to improve governance and leadership in the district.
He also said the Rochester school district must ensure that the Special Education department is supported and held accountable for the implementation of the district’s strategic action plan.
The public will have an opportunity to ask questions at the meeting on Thursday which runs from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Wilson Foundation Academy on Genesee Street.
