Brockport Hosts 'Enough is Enough' Conference

"Enough is Enough" is the new campus sexual assault bill that Governor Cuomo signed into law this summer.

It goes into effect this fall.

Today, the College at Brockport hosted a day long conference on sharing best practices as colleges, universities and community agencies work toward stopping sexual assaults on campus and raise awareness at the same time.

Associate Counsel in the Office of General Counsel at SUNY, Joseph Storch, served as a technical advisor as the legislation was developed.

He gave the keynote address at the conference.

Storch says they want to look at what's been successful across the state and the nation and implement those strategies.

Storch notes the law includes a definition of affirmative consent, and that essentially states that sexual activity is not something that happens to you, it's something you participate in.

Libby Caruso directs the Hazen Center for Integrated Care at the school.

She says affirmative consent is a huge part of the law and they want to make sure students are aware of this.

"It is campus culture change, it's societal culture change. These things have been going on for years, this is nothing new, it's just now we're really taking this seriously and addressing the impact that it has on a student who's been affected by sexual violence."

The measure also creates a victim's bill of rights and boosts training for law enforcement, faculty and students.
