A Buffalo business publication that ranks local school districts says Pittsford dominates the Rochester-area academic picture for the sixth year in a row, since they started the list.
Honeoye Falls-Lima was in second place for the third straight year, followed by Penfield, Brighton and Fairport.
Buffalo Business First editor Scott Thomas says the rankings are compiled from 200 sets of data over a four-year period, including state-administered English and Math standardized test scores, graduation rates and the number of students receiving Regents and advanced Regents diplomas.
"We are not saying that the teachers are better in Pittsford than they are elsewhere,” Thomas said. “We're not saying that the parents are more dedicated or anything else. And we do recognize that socio-economic factors do play a part in this. There's no denying that. What we're trying to do is give a reflection of the educational environment in all of these communities."
The ranking places seven of this year's top eight-rated schools in the 8-county Rochester-Finger Lakes region in Monroe County. The only exception is Victor, which came in number six.
