Kodak Posts 4th Quarter Numbers

Kodak is reporting fourth quarter numbers, which represents the first quarter for the reorganized company following its emergence from Chapter eleven bankruptcy.

The company saw a loss of $63 million  in the quarter, which was down sharply from the loss of $403 million a year ago. Sales for 2013 overall were down 14 percent compared to the previous year, which Kodak says is due partly to the ongoing drop in motion picture film sales as well as a loss of revenue while it was involved in reorganization.

In any case, Brighton Securities President George Conboy says it is difficult to really compare this quarter with last year because of all the changes the company has gone through lately.

"So many bankruptcy related charged are involved and you compare it versus last year where many legacy costs still existed, now they don't, so what we'll do is we'll look at this quarter to establish a baseline from which the future Kodak may be judged."

Kodak recently hired a new CEO Jeff Clarke.  He says he is excited about the strong increases they are seeing in revenues from its emerging technology businesses.  Kodak is now focusing on commercial printing and packaging.

Kodak's new CEO Jeff Clarke, told financial analysts that in a lot of ways, Kodak is almost like a start-up company.

"But this is a startup which has one of the world's most recognized brands , a highly developed supply chain, 25-thousand loyal commercial customers around the world and an exceptional  R and D operation."

Clark was appointed to replace Antonio Perez about a week ago. Perez is now a special advisor to the company.

Before retiring in March 2025, Randy Gorbman was WXXI's director of news and public affairs and managed the day-to-day operations of WXXI News on radio, television, and online.
