A new survey by the Siena Research Institute shows that CEO's in the Rochester area are not as confident about the future of the local economy as are their counterparts in Buffalo, Syracuse or Albany.
Survey director Don Levy says one factor behind that may be that the business leaders in the other cities are more unified about which industry will help bring their particular city to greater economic heights.
"In Buffalo it's the medical field, in the Capital Region it's technology, the promise is spread out over all the industries so I think consequently there's no one star that CEO's in Rochester are saying, that's the new identity of Rochester, that's where we go from here, consequently the confidence in the future has eroded."
Levy does say that Rochester area business leaders are still relatively bullish on the current state of the local economy, but they are not as positive about the future prospects of this area compared to the CEO's in the other upstate cities.
He says other factors that many of the CEO's across upstate are worried about include the impact will be of the Affordable Care Act, as well as government regulation in general.
