Monroe County to move a downtown COVID-19 vaccination site

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

The effort to vaccinate more people against COVID-19 in Monroe County will see a change in one of the mass vaccination sites this weekend.

County Executive Adam Bello has announced that the county is relocating its downtown COVID-19 vaccination clinic from the Joseph A. Floreano Rochester Riverside Convention Center to the Monroe Community College downtown campus.

The convention center clinic is closed after Saturday and the new clinic at the MCC campus at 321 State Street will open on July 7.

Bello said, “As we continue to recover from the pandemic, it’s time to let the Rochester Riverside Convention Center to get back to its important work of being a premier venue for special events, trade shows, meetings, conventions and weddings.”

The county still has another large vaccination site at the Fleet Center on Paul Road until July 23, and there are a number of community based clinicsthroughout the area.

The state-run mass vaccination site at the Dome Arena in Henrietta is still open as well.

Recent data from the state shows that in Monroe County, 59.7% of the population has had at least one dose of the vaccine.

There has been a drop in the vaccination rate nationwide, as the Biden administration works to increase those numbers, especially among young people.
