Monroe County reports one new COVID-19 death

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

The Monroe County public health department confirmed one new death from COVID-19 in the county on Wednesday, bringing the total to 113.

It was the lowest daily increase in death toll since the county reported no deaths from COVID-19 on April 13.

The health department also confirmed 26 new cases of infection with the novel coronavirus on Wednesday, including a boy younger than 10 and five people in their 80s.

The number of people hospitalized with COVID-19 dropped to 96, while the number of people in an ICU on a ventilator for treatment held steady at 22.

Local officials have said the county appears to be in a COVID-19 plateau, with the burden on the health care system at a manageable level.

Still, officials said, maintaining that status relies on people continuing to observe distancing recommendations and minimize physical contact outside the home.
