First hour: Preparing to help the homeless this winter
Second hour: ACLU's Dennis Parker on race in the era of video
The rough winter months are coming, and we're looking at the new efforts to help the local homeless population. It feels like a long time since heavy equipment took apart the Tent City. We'll welcome representatives from organizations with varying approaches to homelessness, and we'll talk about the range of issues, from simply providing warm space, to confronting addiction. In studio:
Sister Grace Miller, House of Mercy
Michael Hennessy, executive director of Open Door Mission
Mike Rood, Salvation Army and the Homeless Service Network
Kim Hunt-Uzelac, Rochester Area Interfaith Hospitality Network
In our second hour, we welcome the ACLU's Director of the Racial Justice Program, Dennis Parker. He's in town to visit the College at Brockport. On Connections, Parker will talk to us about race in the era of video cameras; he'll address how "evidence of discrimination has launched a new form of civil rights movement, including the creation of grassroots movements such as Black Lives Matter."
