Delphi Technologies to close Henrietta technical center

Delphi Technologies announced Thursday that it is closing its Henrietta Technical Center by December 31, 2020, affecting 235 employees.

The company says this is part of a response to the major transitions and challenges the automotive industry faces.

The company says the decision, "while difficult,"  was made “following a comprehensive global analysis of the company’s engineering footprint and broader cost structure.”

Delphi says it is adapting quickly to ensure it is best positioned to continue to invest in key technologies and deliver longer-term profitable growth.

The company says where possible, the affected workers in Henrietta will be retrained and offered roles at other sites if there are suitable opportunities.

The Henrietta facility was focused on developing projects relating to fuel injection, valvetrains and power powertrain products.

On Thursday, Dephi reported an 11% decrease in earnings compared to a year ago with a decline in operating income as well.

Henrietta Town Supervisor Steve Schultz tells WXXI News that he hates to see anyone lose their job, but he says Henrietta does have a growing economy.

Schultz says that he recently got word that a long-awaited announcement will happen in the next week or two representing a significant number of new jobs in the town. He also says the Delphi facility is a good one, and he doesn’t think it will be vacant for long.

Before retiring in March 2025, Randy Gorbman was WXXI's director of news and public affairs and managed the day-to-day operations of WXXI News on radio, television, and online.
