A local business executive who used to head up the mall company Wilmorite has died in an accident in Costa Rica.

According to a statement from Ryco Management, where John W. Anderson most recently worked, Anderson died while ziplining.

He was celebrating his 65th birthday at the time and the statement says Anderson had taken a zip line into a restaurant for dinner. After the meal, customers rappel down to ground level, and early indications are something went wrong as Anderson was rappelling down, causing him to fall about 100 feet to his death. Costa Rican authorities are investigating.

John was a partner at Ryco Management, a property management company in Pittsford, and company president James Ryan Jr. says that “John was the best business partner anyone could have. He will be sorely missed.
