IEC Electronics To Lay Off More Than 70 Workers

A Wayne County manufacturer is announcing some layoffs. IEC Electronics says it is cutting around 73 workers at its plant in Newark.

President and CEO Jeffrey Schlarbaum says the company is managing expenses as it goes through a turnaround. He also says since the company does contract manufacturing, its workforce needs fluctuate depending on demand and they've seen a softening in that demand in the near term.

He says they remain confident about the long term prospects of the company. This week, I-E-C also said it is selling a manufacturing facility in New Mexico for $5.75 million.
