TWC News

A longtime area broadcaster has died. His obituary says that Ben Herrera died unexpectedly last Thursday at the age of 75.

Herrera was producer and host of Que Pasa, on WXXI-TV starting in 1973. It aired late Friday afternoons.

R News (now Time Warner Cable News), began  airing the 30-minute interview segment in Spanish in the mid-1990's.  According to TWC News,  at the same time Herrera, after retiring from Kodak, joined R News as the producer and anchor of R Mundo on weeknights. R Mundo was a Spanish-language newscast featuring the day's top local, national and international stories.

TWC News says that Herrera was a teacher in his native Colombia and worked in broadcasting there before moving here in the late 1960's.

Calling hours for Ben Herrera will be held Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Miller Funeral and Cremation Services, 3325 Winton Road South.  A Memorial Mass will be held Wednesday, 10 a.m. at St. Marianne Cope Parish at Good Shepherd Church, 3318 East Henrietta Road.

Before retiring in March 2025, Randy Gorbman was WXXI's director of news and public affairs and managed the day-to-day operations of WXXI News on radio, television, and online.
