Thousands come out to Rochester's St. Patrick's Day parade

Thousands of people lined the streets along East Avenue and Main Street in Rochester on Saturday for the annual St. Patrick's Day parade.

It was cold, but sunny, and people bundled up to watch the afternoon festivities.

This year’s parade featured a new leprechaun. John Patrick Sullivan has been doing the honors for about 30 years, but turned over the duties to Luke Dowdell of Spencerport this year.

The grand marshal was Michael McCarthy, retired director of safety and security for St. John Fisher College and before that, he was an investigator with the Rochester Police Department.

The parade was preceded by a road race, the 20th annual, Johnny's Runnin' of the Green on some downtown streets.
