ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — A coalition of clergy members, labor unions and people whose criminal convictions were overturned are urging Gov. Andrew Cuomo to sign legislation that would create a panel to investigate prosecutorial misconduct.
The bill was passed earlier this year by the Legislature. It would create a commission that would look into complaints about district attorneys. The commission would have the power to sanction prosecutors who are found to have abused their power.
The group calling on Cuomo to sign the bill includes organizations such as the New York State United Teachers and the National Action Network as well as elected leaders from Albany, Rochester and Syracuse.
The group sent a letter to Cuomo on Friday expressing their support for the measure. The Democratic governor hasn't said whether he'll sign the bill.
