Catholic Family Center in Rochester is studying its policies after a Catholic organization in Buffalo announced it will end its foster care and adoption services next year.

Catholic Charities of Buffalo says it is phasing out the programs because it can't comply with New York State regulations barring discrimination against same-sex couples looking to adopt or foster children and at the same time conform to church teachings.

Katherine Grant, a spokesperson for Rochester's Catholic Family Center, said in an email that CFC just learned about the Buffalo decision and are studying the matter as they review their own policies.

Catholic Family Center's programs range from foster care placements for unaccompanied refugee minors to domestic adoptions and international and special needs adoptions.

In Buffalo, Catholic Charities officials say they're working with the county and state to support a smooth transition for its programs, which include 55 certified foster homes.
