Local Political Scientist says Mayor Warren Can Overcome Latest Controversy

A local political scientist says Mayor Lovely Warren can overcome the string of controversies that have plagued her first three months in office.

Political Scientist Tim Kneeland, of Nazareth College, calls Mayor Warren prudent to delay judgment before taking any disciplinary action against the Deputy Mayor after a drunken driving arrest Thursday.

“She has asked the deputy mayor to go get some counseling and treatment. She may reevaluate this position, but from the sense of giving this gentleman a fair hearing, allowing to make his case, and also not rushing to judgment on her own I think that actually shows some real maturity for the mayor,” said Kneeland.

Redon was arrested for speeding, DWI, and driving with an expired inspection early Thursday morning. Mayor Warren declined to accept the deputy mayor’s resignation, instead asking him to take personal days to consult with a physician.

Kneeland acknowledges this is one of many controversies that have surrounded the mayor in her short three month tenure, but believes there is time to turn things around.

“The good news for the mayor is she doesn’t have to face election for a few more years. Once this incident is out of the way she can focus in on governing and delivering the services the city needs.”
