A body believed to be that of of Dr. Timothy Jorden has been found dead near his home in Hamburg, NY.
Buffalo Police issued a nationwide search for the trauma surgeon wanted as a "person of interest" in Wednesday fatal shooting at ECMC.
WIVB-TV reports that the body was found off a dirt road near his home.
Multiple law enforcement agencies searched for Dr. Timothy Jorden in connection with the shocking shooting death of 33-year-old Jackie Wisniewski, the ECMC receptionist who was killed at her workplace early Wednesday morning.
Law enforcers have, so far, refused to label the trauma surgeon as a suspect, even though the 49 year old Jorden was believed the only person being sought in connection with yesterday's shooting death of Wisniewski.
Police remain mum as to motive or what the connection was between the doctor and Ms. Wisniewski; saying only that what happened was not a random act. Police Commissioner Daniel Derenda updated the press at a late morning briefing Thursday at Police headquarters.
"We're working with our state, local, and federal partners to locate Mr. Jorden. We want to talk to him about yesterday's homicide. We conducted yesterday search warrant at his home. He was not there; some other items were taken as evidence. Right now, we're just continuing to search for him," said Derenda.
After hours of locking down ECMC Wednesday, police focused on Jorden's Lake View home where a variety of precautions were taken, including calling upon National Grid to turn off the power in surrounding neighborhood.
Wisniewski and Jorden lived together for four years before a recent parting of the ways.
According to Cheektowaga Police, Jorden had been involved in domestic incidents in 2003.
Jorden's professional career is one of high-level accomplishments. A former Army Special Forces weapons expert, Jorden earned a reputation as a gifted trauma surgeon.
A Buffalo Police officer on long-term sick leave was taken into custody at Jorden's home after police found him with a Rolex watch and about $5,000 in cash. Martin Motely was arrested. The Buffalo News says Motely and Jorden were friends, but Motely isn't saying much.
But at Thursday's news briefing, Police Commissioner Dereneda would not confirm that Motely was in custody.
Thursday police were using search dogs to scour a ravine near the doctor's Lake View home after a neighbor of Jorden's told police he heard a single gun-shot around 9:30 Wednesday morning about an hour after the ECMC shooting.
