First hour: "Fifty and Forward: An Anniversary Celebration of NPR"
Second hour: "Amazon: The Prime Effect - Episode 1: What is Amazon?"We bring you special programming on this July 5. In our first hour, NPR grew up alongside a post-Watergate journalism ethos that shaped the media industry for decades. Hosted by Audie Cornish and featuring other NPR journalists, we unpack that ethos: how it developed in the newsroom and changed over time, through today. Analytical, critical and forward-thinking, this program tells the story of NPR's history in the context of the growth of modern media.
Then in our second hour, "Amazon: The Prime Effect." Understanding what Amazon is, is crucial to understanding how it is changing the way we shop, live, and work. We do a dive deep on the structure of Amazon, the invisible strings that tie together the parts, and why those parts create something the government is keeping its eye on. In this hour, we also hear from litigator David Boies, who led the government’s antitrust case against Microsoft in the late 1990’s. We draw the parallels and what Amazon learned from that case as clues for what monopoly enforcement against Amazon might look like.
